PEAS AND CARROTS REPORT

Post Election Edition

“Because growth and protection go together - just like peas and carrots.”

Last week we highlighted comparisons between the environmental and energy policies of presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain.  Now that President-elect Obama is preparing to take the reins, here are some analyses and opinions of what to expect – and when.

Energy thinkers ponder future
This New York Times piece actually gives industry, academic and activist perspectives.  The differences are startling (and potentially troubling if the President-elect sides with the extremists).

Democrat victory could bring US energy policy shift
CNN predicts a bad few years for the oil and coal industries.  Since our economy is based largely on these industries, if they are correct it means a bad few years for American citizens as well.

Obama may bring new market for gas producers
The future looks bright for natural gas.  Hopefully the state legislative committee studying this issue takes note.

Regulating CO2 under the Clean Air Act
In our humble opinion, this is going to be President-elect Obama’s first major environmental test.  For the sake of our already fragile economy, we hope he has the answer.
